White Oak (Quercus alba)

“If oak is the king of trees, as tradition has it, then the white oak, throughout its range, is the king of kings.” -Donald Peattie

Quite a bold statement, but this hardy specimen has no problem living up to the reputation. It’s deep taproot and especially strong branches give it superior structural integrity. The acorns are a favorite among wildlife and its fall coloration is a vibrant red, which contrasts well with its light gray, fissured bark.
