Southern Live Oak (Quercus virginiana)

This large evergreen oak is iconic in the southeastern United States. It is also the state tree of Georgia.

The name “Live Oak” comes from the fact that it produces new leaves as the old ones are lost so it never goes bare. Plenty of space is needed for this tree, as the Southern Live Oak produces massive, spreading limbs that can grow very close to the ground.
